When Your Spouse Gets Sick
Author Unknown
When you get married, part of the marital vows you take says: "in sickness and in health". But what will actually happen if out of a nowhere... your better half gets seriously sick or disabled? Are you willing and able to take care of him or her? Now that’s something you really need to give some serious thought to... isn't it? Personally, I know that I would take care of my spouse. You see, it's like this... he provides and takes care of our home, so when in need of me, I will take care of him. Studies show that "it's better to give than to receive" really rings true when it comes to overall health and longevity in a marriage or relationship. It's also believed among some cultures that taking care of and doing for others, you live longer. What if your spouse was the one who took care of everything concerning the upkeep of the home? Would you be able to take over? What about your job, or if you have to get a job? Could you do it? Could you handle mowing the lawn, house cleaning, car repairs, shopping, or home repairs? In addition to those things and more, you also have to take care of your spouse and their needs, such as bathing and dressing, feeding them, and medical appointments. Personally, I'm right there with my husband when it comes to things breaking down, or need fixing. He tells me go find something to do, but I just laugh and stay right there, looking and learning. How else will I learn what and how to do in preparation when it becomes necessary to keep everything going and running smoothly if he becomes seriously sick or disabled.
